This car graveyard was photographed with ancient cameras.
A few months ago, I picked up a thrift-store Ansco Speedex medium-format film camera, vintage 1940 or thereabouts, and took it to my local self-service wrecking yard for testing. It had a few light leaks, since fixed, and I was eager to shoot some more Junkyard Treasures with it. I brought along an even older camera: a European folding camera with no identifying markings other than its 1905-1916 Gauthier Vario shutter assembly.
1910 or so on the left, 1940-ish on the right. 120 film dates back to 1901 and is still being made today. Photo by Murilee Martin
